4 Hours after Le Castellet – Hugo and the United Autosports’ team finish in the points

Having gained confidence during the pre-season, Hugo and his team had a difficult race yesterday, but still managed to gain their first points in the championship.

A demanding first race

Used to the podiums of the European Le Mans Series, Hugo and the United Autosports’ team battled to get their first points of the season during the 4 hours of Le Castellet.

Lead by Will Owen, Wayne Boyd and Hugo, the United Autosports’ single-seater no. 32 was forced to return to the pit during the first hour of the race, meaning a change in race plan to avoid a 10 second penalty for excess time.

Hugo, for his part, managed to maintain United Autosports’ single seater in the top 10 in spite of difficult race conditions. Towards the end of the race he showed very promising form for the rest of the season, demonstrating pace on a par with the race leaders.

“I had an old front right tyre for my stints and I struggled until the fuel load went down. I worked on my consistency and I seemed particularly unlucky with traffic. My pace was as good as the leaders at the end which was pleasing. We made changes to the car after FP2 and it was improved but still tricky to drive in qualifying. Unfortunately, on what was looking like my fastest lap, I hit a dislodged bollard and understeered off the track.”

The second stage of the European Le Mans Series will take place on 13th May in Monza, Italy. Time for United Sports, and Hugo, to continue their progress and aim for new heights!
