4 Hours of Monza – A cruel result for Hugo and United Autosports

This weekend, Hugo and United Autosports travelled to Italy for the 4 Hours of Monza. The second round of the European Le Mans Series calendar, the 4 Hours of Monza was the scene of a cruel disillusionment for Hugo and his team who could hope for better, given their race.

First relay of the race, Hugo started from the 4 Hours of Monza in eighth position. A ranking that he held without problem at the start of the race, even allowing himself to grab two precious places.

Hugo then clung to the leaders of the race, without trying to attack, in order to manage his tyres.

The rest of the Monza 4 Hours was more eventful for United Autosports. The No. 32 single-seater of the Anglo-American team did, indeed, afford itself the luxury of being part of the leading trio in the middle of the race. Alas, this parenthesis was of short duration. The drivers were then forced to save fuel, before switching to the pit for last minute refuelling, which relegated Hugo and his team-mates to 11th position.

At the end of the 4 Hours of Monza, Hugo declared: “The race was hectic, very unexpected. I haven’t had a race in ELMS with that many safety cars before. I was conservative on the start and was happy to gain two places. Then I decided to not push and conserve tyres. I stayed with the lead group, on pace, it wasn’t that bad. I had to manage it, we were running really well. We just had bad luck, it was a good effort, but we need to learn and progress.”
