Race report Red Bull Ring
After his first podium in Pau, Hugo de Sadeeler and his team headed off to the Red Bull Ring in Austria. Further to Hugo’s first top-3 finish and Tech 1 Racing’s overall performance, the round 3 of the 2014Formula Renault 2.0 Alps Series seemed promising.
Unfortunately, this time, Simon Abadie’s team was not as successful as in Pau and the results are mitigated.
During the free practice sessions, everything went good: Hugo stood alongside the leaders and performed in the top-ten. At the end of the first session, Hugo managed to set the sixth-fastest time. During the second session, he managed to keep up with the leaders and to set the ninth-fastest time.
After some promising free practice sessions, Hugo felt confident for the qualifying sessions. The qualifying rounds were divided into two groups. Hugo, in the group A, achieved to get the eighth position.
Taking eight on the grid of the opening race, Hugo had to struggle with a pack of drivers and scored nineteenth.
Sunday’s outing had Hugo starting from sixth. Race 2 was complex as Hugo got trapped between several challengers. He brilliantly overtook numerous rivals and caught up with five places but his powerful come back did not last a long time as Hugo was handicapped by a penalty of 25 secondes.
At the end of race 2, Hugo scored seventeeth at the checkered, a mitigated result given his earlier form in Pau. However, Simon Abadie remains confident : « his promising free practice sessions and his race 2 give us a glimpse of great performances for the rest of the season ».
