Race report Spa-Francorchamps

The Spa-Francorchamps circuit hosted the second round of the World Series by Renault.

Tech 1 Racing arrived in Belgium with its usual five drivers : Aurélien Panis, Roy Nissany in Formula Renault 3.5 Series, Anthony Hubert, Simon Gachet and of course, Hugo de Sadeleer in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0.

Hugo de Sadeleer in constant progress

During the practice sessions on friday, Hugo de Sadeleer put on low-key performance and got down to preparing to achieve his aim of closing the gap to the leaders.

On Saturday, for the first time, Hugo got into the first 10 in his group. Unfortunately, his efforts were dashed by a collision during the race.

The next day, as Simon Gachet, Hugo de Sadeleer saw his race ended prematurely. While Hugo was getting close to the front-runners, his race ended in race retirement.

Simon Abadie, the Tech 1 Racing team manager commented Hugo’s performance :

“After a difficult Friday, Hugo got back in the groove. He’s making big steps forward and is getting closer to the quickest in qualifying, also on Sunday even if his place was less flattering. Now that he’s finished his studies, and that was his priority which we fully understand, we’re going to begin doing a lot of work on the simulators before Budapest with him and his team-mates. He will set his aims higher; he’s ready and his results will improve dramatically.”

Next step ? Hungary for the third round of the World Series by Renault on 13-14 June. Two Formula Renault 3.5 Series races and Eurocup Renault 2.0 heats are on the programme.
